Launching Tome Keepers!

Tome will never sell ads or your data, so how are we going to make money? This week’s launch marks our first step in defining a new business model for social networks, one that will support the company ethically and sustainably for the long term.
As you may have noticed, there is a new, twinkling diamond on Tome, nestled in the navigation bar. Depending on when you’re reading this, there’s also a mysterious countdown to Thursday, March 20th 2025 at noon. Officially, this week we are launching our Tome Keeper subscription!
Why Tome Keeper?
Tome Keepers are how we will support the app long term. We’re competing against global players with large pockets, both within the book world, like Amazon-owned Goodreads, and beyond, like ad-driven Instagram or Tumblr. In order to continue to build the best home for fantasy readers and beyond, we need to make sure we’re set up to sustain our servers and the mighty Tome team.
Setting a subscription price allows us to plan farther in the future with a continued revenue stream. For example, the subscriptions fund our larger projects, like continuing our Android app development (which we are making good progress on)!
Philosophically, we become accountable to you all when you understand where the money is coming from. Because we are monetized by you, our community, we aren’t beholden to larger donors or corporate interests. You know where our incentives come from, and they are to make a community that you feel proud to support, rather than sell, train, or use your data perniciously. You are a member of the community, not a product to advertisers.
You don't need to become a Tome Keeper to enjoy Tome. Things like customizing your profile, rating books, and posting memes will always be free. Fortunately, those who can afford to become subscribers pitch in for everyone on the app.
What is Tome Keeper?
It is a $10/month subscription to support the team, get cool badges, and get first dibs on future customizations.
Tome Keepers will get a rank, a first come first served number that indicates how early you were to supporting Tome!

Launch Information
Wednesday 6pm EST during the Town Hall (livestreamed on Tiktok or in our Discord Town Hall) we will drop an early access code to let you claim Tome Keeper early.
Thursday, 12pm EST the countdown will end, and Tome Keeper will be go live to everyone, on the web and in the app.
