Code of Honor

*Last Updated: 10/21/2025*

We believe a safe community is a strong community. We encourage creativity, self-expression, diversity, and thoughtful debate. However, harm disguised as entertainment will never be ok and we will deal with all issues quickly and seriously. All users must agree to the Terms of Service in order to use the platform.

1. Be kind**

Specifics are outlined in our Terms of Service below, but just try your best to be kind, act with your best intention, and assume the best intention from others.

2. Build together

We encourage collaboration, remixing, and generous citing of sources. It’s a great way to encourage contributions to the community.

3. Take care of one another

We encourage and reward proactive care for others. If you see someone is having a tough time, check in! If you can help answer a question, please do! Our community is only as strong as we commit to it being.

3.1. You may not impersonate any person or entity or represent them without their explicit consent or indicating a parody or fan account. We reserve the right to reclaim usernames if you impersonate someone or something else.

3.2. You cannot use our platforms to abuse, bully or harass any user or groups of users.

3.3. You cannot engage in discrimination, hateful speech, or threatening harm against any person (or groups of people).

3.4. You are solely responsible for your content and the consequences of publishing it.

3.5. Any form of automated or non-authentic user activity, including but not limited to the use of bots, scripts, or any other fraudulent activity, is strictly prohibited and will result in immediate account suspension and forfeiture of any rewards or benefits associated with such actions.

Badges
When you submit a badge on Tome, you are agreeing that you created it yourself. We encourage you to be as original and creative as possible; however, we do not accept:

  • Submissions that contain hateful language or imagery

  • Badges that we feel violate our community standards in ANY way (including our Copyright Policy as detailed in section 8 of our Terms of Service).

  • Badges that are unreadable, unrecognizable, or that do not meet our standards. If your badge falls into this category, we will do our best to articulate what improvements can be made.

When deciding which badges are going to be allowed into our marketplace, the Tome Team has the right to veto anything that we decide does not fit within our marketplace.

When selecting badges, our priority will always be community safety and image quality. We are not responsible for attempting to discern badges that have been created using AI tools, and do not want to limit self expression by questioning Tomies about their creative methods. We encourage you to be as original as possible.

Content that is not allowed on our platforms:

Untagged Sexually Explicit Material. Art with nudity must be tagged appropriately with NSFW tags to respect all our user's content preferences. That includes pictures, videos, GIFs, drawings, CGI, or anything similar.

Hate Speech. Don't encourage violence or hatred. Don't post content for the purpose of promoting or inciting the hatred of, or dehumanizing, individuals or groups based on race, ethnic or national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, age, veteran status, sexual orientation, disability or disease. If you encounter content that violates our hate speech policies, please report it.

We recognize that people sometimes share content, including usernames, or other content on Tome, that includes slurs or someone else’s speech in order to condemn the speech or report on it. In other cases, speech, including slurs, that might otherwise violate our standards is used self-referentially or in an empowering way. We allow this type of speech where the speaker’s intention is clear. Where intention is unclear, we may remove content.

Deceptive or Fraudulent Links. Don't post deceptive or fraudulent links in your posts. This includes giving links misleading descriptions, putting the wrong “source” field in a post, setting misleading click-through links on images, or embedding links to interstitial or pop-up ads.

Spam. Don't spam people. Don't make spammy posts, don't post spammy replies, don't send people spammy messages.

Self-Harm. Do not post content that promotes, glorifies, or encourages self-harm, suicide, or disordered eating behaviors. This includes text, images, or videos that depict or describe acts of self-injury or suicidal ideation in a way that could be interpreted as instructional, celebratory, or triggering. We support open and constructive conversations about mental health, but content must not present dangerous behaviors in a manner that risks harm to viewers. If you or someone you know is struggling, please seek help from qualified professionals or support services.

Fraudulent or Misleading Commercial Activity. Users may not use the platform to advertise, promote, or sell products or services that are deceptive, misleading, or exploitative in nature. All commercial content must adhere to truthful advertising standards and must not attempt to defraud, mislead, or take unfair advantage of other users.

While we strive for fairness, please be aware that we retain the authority to suspend accounts or delete content without prior notification, for various reasons, with a primary focus on safeguarding our services, infrastructure, users, and community. We reserve the right to alter or remove any usernames, images, text, or any other content with content moderation tools, including the ability to remove posts that violate these guidelines. The decision to enforce or not enforce these guidelines is at our sole discretion, and they do not establish any obligation or contractual commitment on our part to act in a specific manner.

Content Moderation on Tome

The Tome Team has both a responsibility and a right to maintain the Tome feeds. This means:

  • Removing posts we deem to be in violation of our Code of Honor.

  • If content doesn’t directly breach Tome’s Code of Honor but may be inappropriate, disrespectful, or offensive, we may limit it from the New and Hot feeds, rather than removing it entirely from Tome.

Decisions regarding content moderation are made on a case-by-case basis and are at the sole discretion of the team. If you would like to discuss an action taken by the team, you can do so by emailing us (hello@tomebooks.com)

Suspension and Bans

Breaking Tome’s Code of Honor may result in your account being disabled, either permanently or temporarily.

  • Temporary suspensions last seven days and typically are a result of not following our Code of Honor.

  • Bans, which are permanent, can be a result of either an extreme action or repeated offenses.

  • Bans will result in the deletion of your account and all of your content.

The Tome Team determines whether a given situation requires action, and what that action is on a case-by-case basis.

You will be notified that your account has been disabled when you open Tome. If you are banned or suspended, and would like to appeal the decision or seek more information, please contact us at hello@tomebooks.com.

Conflict with another Tome user

If you have had a conflict with another Tome user, we ask that you first consider the context of the post or comment you feel offended by. It can be easy to misinterpret tone online, especially if someone is making a reference to a trend or piece of media you are unfamiliar with.

If you believe that a post or comment is in violation of our Code of Honor or Terms of Service, please report it within your app, and if you feel it necessary, contact us via email(hello@tomebooks.com)

Blocking the creator of the offensive content is often a wise decision; it will result in them not being able to see you or your content, and vice versa. We find this is often enough to resolve most issues. If a blocked user attempts to circumvent you blocking them, please report this immediately to the Tome Team.

Please note that while we strive to create the safest possible environment, we cannot mediate disputes between users. Additionally, disliking another person or their opinions is not grounds for banning or suspension.

When it is taken too far:

If a Tome user’s actions are affecting your mental health, we suggest you use the following resources in addition to reporting their activity to the team.

If you are experiencing persistent harassment or abuse, we recommend reporting the account(s) responsible, and blocking them immediately. We will remove accounts or posts that blatantly violate our Code of Honor, including accounts created with the intention to mock or spread hate.

Reporting is anonymous. We may require your information if you are reporting an account for imitating, mocking, or stealing intellectual property from you. The reported account will not see who reported them.

When to get more help:

If a conflict appears to have gone beyond the bounds of Tome (including Discord servers), or has become a credible threat (on or offline), we suggest that you contact local authorities. They will know how to best assess and intervene in a given situation.

If we are contacted by authorities, we will cooperate and provide any information for their investigation.

Tome cannot offer legal advice, if a dispute becomes legal in nature, please seek advice from a lawyer. Additionally, we cannot provide information about other individuals unless required by valid legal process.

🚨 Our commitment to creating a positive and welcoming space requires that we all take safety seriously. If you witness a violation of the Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, please report the incident to our team via email hello@tomebooks.com.
