Live Now: Book Tracking!

Sep 9, 2025

Conversations online about books typically revolve around the ending- the review. On most existing sites (your Goodreads, Storygraph, Fable, etc.), the primary content you’ll see is ratings for finished books.

But what about the reading journey? And what about connecting with others, over our shared love or even disdain for characters, story arcs, tropes, authors, and more? We can all agree that there is enormous value in the lessons learned and adventures had through books, so why not create a place to discuss them as you read?

Today, we’re launching book tracking on Tome. Now every time you update your page number, update a book to finished, or mark something as To Be Read, you’ll make a post. All these posts live in the book on your profile, so you’ll have a journal of everything as you read.

Our tracker is ideal for those who love to make little notes in the margins of their books, who send reaction gifs to their book besties when they reach that chapter, and those who can’t stop telling everyone they bump into about the book they're reading. Those who become completely immersed in their reading.

Oh, and if you’re wondering, we’re launching half stars today, too.

How to track your reading using Tome with our new book tracking features:

  • Tag reading buddies on your reaction to a major plot twist

  • Share in-depth reviews with half stars!

  • Change a book’s status when you start, finish, or DNF!

  • Update your progress percent with page numbers!

  • Collect intriguing reviews to your TBR

  • Keep track of when you read each book with started and finished dates!

Here’s what you can track on Tome that you can’t on Goodreads

Tome’s reading tracker is unique for a book app because you can:

  • Save photos of idyllic reading spots

  • Pull meaningful quotes

  • Add Spotify music playlists or mood boards that highlight the vibes of your favorite characters

  • Make and share predictions about what’s coming

  • Keep tabs on buddy reads, tag your friends in book club updates, or check in on trusted content creators to find your next book!

Find your new Reading Buddies

Follow tags to discover communities around your favorite books, authors, characters, tropes, and more! Join our fantasy forum and make your opinion known on who the most influential writer is, or reach new audiences with your fan art, cosplays, or curated playlists. Collect to save other users’ posts to your profile and share them with your followers.

We also created Tome’s tracker with the solitary reader in mind. Adding a book, updating its status, and giving it a star rating is an easy (and lovely) experience on Tome. Users can decide to mute their posts or be as discreet as they’d like to be about their reviews. Simply put, if you wanted to use Tome as a more functional, more beautiful alternative to Goodreads, you could do just that easily.

Why is Tome’s tracker ideal? Well, for one, we aren’t owned by Amazon! Our team is extremely proud of our app; it is beautiful and well looked after. We are always creating new, engaging features and improving existing ones. We don’t have ads, we won’t sell your data, and our book tracking features are flexible. You can use Tome however you’d like to! We’re the most customizable tracker there is!

We aim to become the best social book tracker. One where you can not only track with ease, but also find meaningful community. A place where your next favorite book recommendation is just a post away!

What’s next for Tome’s book tracker?

We’re excited to be working on our Goodreads import tool, which will allow users to bring all their reviews onto Tome and make our app their one home for books! Additionally, we’re looking forward to our upcoming Kindle and Audible syncing tools. These syncing tools will make tracking easier than ever and help us develop our weekly wrapped feature.

Ultimately, we want to make tracking fun and easy for the audiobook listeners, e-readers, annotators, special edition collectors, paperback enthusiasts, and everyone in between, while also giving them a chance to meet new people and build a community around books.

We are always happy to hear from fellow readers, so if you have any thoughts on this, don’t hesitate to email us!
